What the GHRP Trial Records Measure

Do the trial records for GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 support the uses the compounds are sold for?

The answer

No. All 115 titles were read: they are overwhelmingly pituitary provocation and diagnostic studies, giving the peptide to measure hormone release rather than to treat anything, and the GHRP-6 count also draws in neighboring compounds and animal work.

Trial-type records for the two GHRP compounds

All 115 clinical-trial titles were read; they are provocation and diagnostic studies, and the GHRP-6 union also returns hexarelin, ghrelin, two non-peptide mimetics and animal work.

The two counts

A census run against PubMed on 2026-09-01 returns, for GHRP-2 across six name variants, 260 indexed records with 160 carrying the Humans subject heading, 59 the clinical-trial publication type and 43 the randomized-controlled-trial type [1]. For GHRP-6 across five name variants it returns 801 indexed records, 316 with the Humans heading, 56 under the clinical-trial type and 25 under the randomized type [2].

Both runs carried their controls. The publication-type filters were proved live against a control term returning 8,906 records under the clinical-trial filter and 6,115 under the randomized filter; the invalid tag clinicaltrial[pt] returned zero for that same control term; and a deliberately invalid record identifier errored in the same run [1, 2].

One hundred and fifteen trial-type records between two compounds is a substantial number by the standards of this index, where several molecules return none. It is larger than the count for any other unapproved growth hormone secretagogue here. Every one of the 115 titles was retrieved and read.

What the GHRP-2 records contain

The dominant design is a provocation test. The peptide is given once, or over a few hours, and growth hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone or cortisol release is measured under varying hormonal conditions — across sex-steroid clamps, estradiol repletion, age strata, visceral adiposity, and combinations with growth hormone-releasing hormone. A large share of those records come from a single physiology group working on the regulation of growth hormone pulses [1].

The records that are not provocation studies are few and specific. A phase 1 study established pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in children [3]. An eight-month study of graded doses in growth-hormone-deficient children is the longest administration record indexed [4]. One study measured the effect on food intake in obese adults [5], and one established the compound as a diagnostic test for growth hormone deficiency in adults [6]. One record is a study in pigs [1].

None of that is a trial of the compound for the purposes it is sold for. A provocation study establishes that the peptide releases growth hormone; it does not establish that releasing growth hormone in a person who is not deficient produces any clinical outcome, and no record in the set was designed to answer that. The longest administration record is a dose-ranging study in deficient children, which is a different population from the one buying the material.

What the GHRP-6 count actually covers

GHRP-6's 56 records carry an additional problem, and it is one no count can show. The name variants that identify the compound also identify its whole pharmacological neighborhood: the union draws in hexarelin, ghrelin itself, the non-peptide mimetics MK-677 and L-692,429 that were developed from the hexapeptide, and animal work in cattle, dogs and rats [2].

Fifty-six is therefore not fifty-six trials of GHRP-6, and a page that reported it as such would attribute a receptor family's literature to one molecule sold from it. What remains after reading is again a provocation and diagnostic literature: growth hormone and adrenocorticotropic hormone responses, adrenal-insufficiency and growth-hormone-deficiency testing, including a trial proposing the combination with growth hormone-releasing hormone as a diagnostic alternative to the insulin tolerance test [7]. One study measured the effect on sleep architecture alongside the hormonal response [8]. One pharmacokinetic study administered the peptide to nine healthy male volunteers [9].

The single indexed record reporting a therapeutic outcome is not a trial of GHRP-6 alone: a 2026 phase 3 open-label randomized trial in acute ischemic stroke tested epidermal growth factor combined with growth hormone releasing hexapeptide, and it was conducted outside the United States [10]. A combination product studied for a neurological indication abroad is not evidence for what is sold here.

The regulatory position the counts do not change

Both compounds sit in Category 3 of the section 503A bulks list published May 14, 2026, the file for substances nominated without adequate support to evaluate [11]. Both are simultaneously in Category 2 under the separate section 503B policy governing outsourcing facilities, added September 29, 2023, where FDA does state safety concerns [12]. Neither was among the seven peptides the advisory committee reviewed in July 2026.

That pairing is the useful summary. These are not obscure molecules with no human exposure; they have been given to people many times, carefully, and measured. What has never been done is a trial of them as a treatment, and the size of the count is what conceals it. The monographs carry each dated ledger, GHRP-6 carries its own, and Category 3 explains the filing both share.
