Evidence reviews

By Diane Walker · Reference Editor

Each review below states a question in its title and answers it in the first sentence. The answer is frequently negative, and the negative is the point: a compound sold on a mechanism described in rodents has a human record a reader is entitled to see counted rather than characterized.

No review introduces a citation. Every source on every page in this family is inherited from a monograph, where it was verified against the literature index at writing time with a control query in the same run; the method states the rule. New literature enters this site through a monograph and reaches a review second, never first.

  1. Do the nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide trials support intravenous NAD+?

NAD+ Infusions and the Precursor Trials

No. Those trials tested oral precursors. Counted separately, nicotinamide riboside has 42 clinical trials and nicotinamide mononucleotide 22, while the phrase set naming an infused NAD+ preparation returns 22 papers in total and one relevant randomized trial, in heart failure.

  2. Does sermorelin produce the effects attributed to growth hormone therapy?

Sermorelin: The Trial Record Stopped in 2005

Not on this record. Sermorelin reliably raises growth hormone, but the adult trials that measured what a reader cares about are three studies from the 1990s that disagree with each other, and no clinical trial of the molecule has been published since 2005.

  3. Does the published thymosin beta-4 research apply to the compound sold as TB-500?

    TB-500 Is Not Thymosin Beta-4

No. TB-500 is a seven-residue fragment of a 43-residue protein, and the clinical record belongs to the protein. Searched on its own names, TB-500 returns one record under the clinical-trial publication type, and that record is a study of tuberculosis.

  4. Does the evidence behind tesamorelin's approval support general fat loss?

    Tesamorelin: Approved Drug, Sold Peptide

No. Every trial the approval rests on enrolled adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, and the one randomized trial of body composition outside that population reduced visceral fat while leaving subcutaneous fat statistically unchanged, at p equal to 0.40.

The record behind the reviews

A review argues from the ledger; the ledger itself is published as reference tables, and every molecule’s dated posture is in the molecule index. Terms of art are defined in the glossary.
