Research-use-only

Also written research use only; research-use-only

Material sold as research-use-only is chemical supply labeled for laboratory purposes rather than for people. The label is the mechanism by which a substance with no lawful route reaches a buyer at all, and it is worth being precise about what it accomplishes.

It places the material outside pharmacy licensure, prescriber oversight, and pharmaceutical quality standards. Its identity, purity, and sterility are whatever the vendor says they are, and no party in the transaction carries the obligations a drug's manufacturer carries. The labeling is not a safety statement about the substance, and it does not make sale for human use lawful.
